Power crisis will end in a fortnight: Minister

June 11, 2014 03:04 am | Updated November 16, 2021 07:01 pm IST - NEW DELHI:

After a meeting with Delhi Lieutenant-Governor Najeeb Jung on Tuesday, Union Power Minister Piyush Goyal blamed the current power crisis in the Capital on the previous Sheila Dikshit-led Congress Government. He added that all transmission lines damaged in the May 30 storm would be fixed within 15 days.

Mr. Goyal told reporters: “There has been a decision paralysis by the previous government led by the mother of a former MP of a constituency which is among the worst affected by the power crisis... The real problem is lack of decision-making and investment in infrastructure in the last 12 years since 2002, particularly since 2010. Any good government has to plan in advance, assess loads going forward and execute adequate transmission and distribution projects."

One of the key outcomes of the Power Ministry's endeavours is that the Oil and Natural Gas Ministry has sanctioned natural gas supply for the Pragati-III Combined Cycle Power Plant at Bawana. The plant has the capacity to produce 1,500 MW but is only producing 290 MW. Mr. Goyal said that the Bawana-Rohini transmission line, which was rendered unoperational in the storm, was being restored. Gopalpur-Mandola and Bamnauli-Papankalan lines were repaired earlier.
