Joint Commissioner of Police (Crime) Ravindra Yadav said that acting on a tip-off about Okpala James supplying cocaine to Delhi and the nearby areas, a police team nabbed him near a bus stand close to the New Delhi railway station on July 10.

“He was carrying 310 gm of fine quality cocaine estimated to be worth Rs 3.5 crore. This is the biggest catch of cocaine by Crime Branch’s Narcotics Cell,” said Mr. Yadav.

James had first come to India on a medical visa last year, which is when he met fellow Nigerian, Chi Chi B, who lured him into joining the smuggling racket.

James came back to India in June 2015 and joined the gang, added the police.

Besides Chi Chi B, the accused was also in touch with another Nigerian national, who is a big player in the illegal cocaine trade and is said to have supplied the contraband to James, Mr. Yadav said.
