At least 130 gm of cocaine has been seized after the arrest of two Nigerian nationals in separate cases in the Capital over the past two days.
In the first case, a Delhi Police Crime Branch team led by Inspector Vivek Pathak laid a trap at Kashmere Gate on Thursday and arrested Akachukwa Christrofer, a resident of Tilak Nagar. The police claim to have recovered 102 gm of fine quality cocaine from his possession. The contraband was worth more than Rs.1 crore in the international market.
During his interrogation, Akachukwa (34) told the police that he first came to India in 2007 on a tourist visa for running a garment business. His mother is in the business of import and export of ladies’ garments. He started exporting readymade garments to Lagos in Nigeria where his mother would receive the consignments. He visited India six times between 2007 and 2010. In 2010, he was arrested in connection with a criminal case registered at the Mandawali police station and remained in Tihar Jail for one year. In jail, he came into contact with fellow Nigerians, who had been jailed for drug trafficking.
Soon after coming out on bail, he started supplying cocaine. He has been procuring the contraband from a fellow Nigerian, Okka, who is currently based in Goa.
A graduate in Business Administration, Akachukwa is the only child of his parents. His father was a civil servant and died in 1981.
In a similar case, the South-East Delhi Police laid a trap on Wednesday near a bus stand in Greater Kailash-I Block and arrested Stanley Chimezie. He was carrying 30 gm of cocaine, the police said.
Stanley (39) said he came to India in November 2011 on a medical visa. He was a professional football player in Nigeria. He is a graduate in Political Science from Lagos University. However, he was unable to make ends meet. He was in love with a girl but could not marry her as he did not have a regular income. He took to drug peddling to make easy money, the police said. Stanley was staying in Uttam Nagar.
