The Delhi Police Special Cell on Wednesday claimed to have averted the murder of an undertrial in a court premises by arresting 10 alleged members of the Neeraj Bawana-Naveen Baali gang, who had come to the District Court in Rohini to eliminate a member of the rival Neetu Dabodia gang. Neetu was killed in a police encounter last year.
Their target Pradeep alias Bhola was to be produced before a Sessions Court here on Wednesday. Pradeep, a close associate of Neetu, is lodged in the same Rohini Jail as Baali’s brother Rahul, who was recently arrested by the Crime Branch in connection with the sensational double murder in Bawana.
Among the arrested persons is 23-year-old Vikas Dabas, a new entrant to the group who was assigned the task of executing the murder inside the courts complex. Dressed as an advocate, Vikas was carrying two “case files” in an apparent bid to evade checking and frisking at the lawyers’ gate, through which he tried to enter the premises.
Deputy Commissioner of Police (Special Cell) Sanjeev Kumar Yadav said the conspiracy was masterminded by Naveen Baali himself. Naveen is currently lodged in Nemka Jail in Faridabad.
“It was learnt that Naveen had roped in his associates Vinod and Rajkumar to arrange weapons and conduct a reconnaissance the Rohini Courts complex,” Mr. Yadav.
On Wednesday, different teams were deployed and 10 alleged criminals who had arrived at the court in three different vehicles were arrested. Six sophisticated firearms have been recovered from them.
A case under Section 120-B of the Indian Penal Code (criminal conspiracy) read with Section 302 IPC (murder) has been registered against them.
