A speech and hearing impaired woman, who went missing from a Delhi Metro station on April 21, exited “without a token and that too on her fourth attempt”, the police said on Monday.
These facts lay bare the lapses on the part of the Central Industrial Security Force (CISF), which handles security of the metro premises, and the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) authorities.
Adarsh Nagar station
Police sources said the CISF personnel posted near exit gates of Adarsh Nagar metro station could’ve prevented 19-year-old Sunita from making the exit had they been alert.
“She wasn’t carrying a token and was able to exit only on her fourth attempt. It’s questionable as to why the CISF personnel at the gate didn’t see her or alert somebody,” a source said.
More than two officers who are privy to the ongoing probe in the case and have seen the CCTV footage confirmed this. The Metro’s customer care cubicles, manned by staff from outsourced agencies, are also located near the exit gates.
Photo circulated
The police might approach the CISF to seek more clarity in the case. The DMRC didn’t respond to queries on the matter. The police have circulated the woman’s photograph in including Ghaziabad, Noida and Gurugram. The Delhi Police’s Twitter handle has also tweeted about her disappearance. She was travelling with her family and was unable to get off along with them at Jahangirpuri station. When the train made a reverse journey, she exited from Adarsh Nagar station.
