The mediation centres set up by the Delhi Dispute Resolution Society (DDRS) in collaboration with the Delhi Government's Law Department at Vikas Bhavan, ITO and Udyog Sadan have solved 100 cases within two months with an average of less than 30 minutes spent on settlement of each case.
The primary focus of DDRS is to provide a mechanism for resolution of pre-litigated and pending court cases without approaching the court or the police. Nineteen such centres have been planned in the nine districts of Delhi to provide timely, speedy and easy delivery of justice to the citizens outside the courts.
After the success of the three mediation centres, DDRS plans to launch a sustained awareness campaign to disseminate complete information about cases under different categories to the public and weaker sections of society.
The programme not only involves lawyers and professionals but also people from residents' welfare associations, socially spirited people and retired officials who can act as mediators after requisite training or help spread awareness about the DDRS programmes.
The mediation centres solved a large number of complaints related to consumer disputes, neighbourhood grievances, family matters and disputes involving government bodies.
