Frequent arguments over petty issues allegedly led a woman to let loose her pet dog on her neighbour in Lajpat Nagar here earlier this week.
The accused, who has been booked for negligent conduct with respect to animals, and the victim live on different floors of the same building.
The victim — Kavita Menghaney — was bitten in the leg by the dog. Ms. Menghaney lives as a tenant on the second floor of the apartment in E-Block with her husband Sunil. Just below her floor lives Seema Dutta, the woman accused of allowing the dog attack.
“Ms. Menghaney used the stairs every day though the building has an elevator. She says she suffers from claustrophobia [fear of enclosed spaces],” said a police officer. This allegedly miffed Ms. Dutta, who often chained her dog down in the corridor, blocking the stairway.
“The victim claims that she repeatedly requested Ms. Dutta to tie the dog inside. Around 10.30 p.m. on Sunday, she was walking down the stairs when she allegedly found Ms. Dutta waiting for her,” the officer added.
Another argument broke out between the two women and Ms. Dutta allegedly commanded the dog to attack Ms. Menghaney.
The dog bit the victim’s leg and kept attacking her till other residents rushed out hearing her cries for help.
The victim was taken to Safdarjung Hospital, where she was discharged after treatment. The police said they are investigating the matter further.
