Petrol pump owners go on strike

April 30, 2016 12:00 am | Updated 08:39 am IST - CHANDIGARH:

Fuel pump owners in several districts of Punjab went on a strike demanding reduction in VAT on diesel and petrol, and threatened not to buy fuel from oil companies from May 1 if their demands were not met.

Petrol Pump Dealers Association of Punjab is demanding reduction in VAT on diesel and petrol, claiming that higher taxes on fuel were hitting the sales of pumps located near the border areas of Haryana and Himachal Pradesh.

“We are demanding reduction in VAT on diesel which is now 90 paise a litre costlier than diesel in Haryana,” Association’s vice-president Ashwinder Monga said.
