PETA holds try vegan campaign

January 23, 2015 12:00 am | Updated 05:35 am IST - NEW DELHI:

Those walking down the street near Jantar Mantar here on Thursday were shocked to be accosted by two people covered from head to toe in paint carrying placards. The persons who had covered themselves in the colours of the India and American flag were PETA protesters who were drawing the attention of passers-by to the meat industry’s effect on the environment.

The protest was being carried out ahead of US President Barack Obama’s visit to the country to call on leaders and urge people to become vegan to combat climate change. The placards being carried by the protesters read “Unite to save the planet: try vegan”.

Says Nikunj Sharma of PETA India: “India and the US have to take the lead in reducing greenhouse gas-emissions and encouraging vegan eating would be an extremely effective way to do that.”
