: The National Green Tribunal (NGT) has directed Ghaziabad Development Authority to pay Rs. 1.17 crore to Ghaziabad Nagar Nigam within a month for construction of sewer lines in Kaushambi.
The directions came while hearing a plea by Kaushambi Apartments Residents’ Welfare Association (KARWA) which alleged that land sold off by GDA to Yashoda Hospital, Supertech, Raj Residency and other builders in the eastern part of Kaushambi area did not have sewer connections.
“Untreated sewer was being dumped in drains.
The Ghaziabad Development Authority did not check the provisioning of such basic facilities at the time of according clearances for occupation to builders,” the plea said.
A Bench headed by Justice U. D. Salvi directed: “The amount to be paid by Ghaziabad Development Authority shall be utilised only for the purposes indicated. Ghaziabad Nagar Nigam is to disconnect all sewer lines linked to storm water drains and stop release of untreated sewage from nearby villages in drains in Kaushambi township within a month.’’
The Tribunal further said that on receipt of the said amount, Ghaziabad Nagar Nigam would have to construct sewer lines within two months there from.
