A 45-year-old man being rushed to G.B. Pant Hospital in an ambulance was killed after a car rammed it near Delhi Gate early on Tuesday morning. The driver of the car was arrested from the spot.
Incident at Delhi Gate
The incident happened around 3 a.m. when Maha Singh, a heart patient and resident of Haryana, was being taken to the hospital by his brother Man Singh and nephew Naresh. “They had reached Delhi Gate and were taking a U-turn towards Daryaganj when a speeding car coming from ITO hit the ambulance. The ambulance turned over thrice before coming to a halt,” said a senior police officer.
The oxygen cylinder placed near Maha Singh fell on his chest, after which he lost consciousness, said the police. He was rushed to a nearby hospital where he was declared brought dead.
‘Bad judgement’
The car driver, Mahfooz Alam, had stopped his vehicle and rushed to offer help. He told the police that the accident was a result of bad judgement on his part.
The police said the deceased had been visiting GB Pant Hospital for the last 10 months. He was unmarried and stayed with his brother and nephew.
The police have seized the car and booked the accused for rash driving and causing death due to negligence.
