Several auto-rickshaw drivers are roaming around the city with posters of the Aam Aadmi Party convener Arvind Kejriwal and the BJP prime ministerial candidate Narendra Modi. However, it seems, just carrying the poster of a political party on the auto-rickshaw is not reflective of the voting preference of the man on the wheel.
“I don't think he (Arvind Kejriwal) stands a very good chance this time here. Is baar to Modi ka hi jyada chala raha hai (This time the trend is largely pro-Modi). I have not pasted his poster in my auto. I drive a hired auto-rickshaw and its the owner must have pasted it,” said Raju Maurya of Palam, who drives a rickshaw with a poster seeking vote for AAP’s West Delhi candidate Jarnail Singh.
Both the AAP and the BJP have been on an overdrive in using three-wheelers in the city for election campaigning. Different auto unions and groups have come forward extending support to either of the parties and several auto-rickshaw drivers are roaming around in the city with posters at the back of their covers. Auto rickshaw drivers overwhelmingly supported the AAP in Delhi Assembly elections.
Other auto-rickshaw drivers said while they are satisfied with the performance of the AAP Government in Delhi, they might not vote for the party in the Lok Sabha polls.
“The AAP Government should have run for five years as they were doing well. But we will discuss Kejriwal in the Assembly elections. I think voting for the AAP in these elections would be a waste of vote as the party is not in a position to play any decisive role in government formation at the Centre,” said Rajesh, an auto-rickshaw driver and resident of Nangal Raya in West Delhi.
