Parents protest against school’s ‘illegal’ demand

March 20, 2015 12:00 am | Updated 05:32 am IST - NEW DELHI:

Demanding admission for 102 children, who were shortlisted for Class 1, in the Kerala Education Society Senior Secondary School, Canning Road, and refund of capitation fee that was ‘illegally’ charged, two members of the Parent Teacher Association and Save Kerala School Canning Road Action Council, have proceeded on indefinite hunger strike at Jantar Mantar, since Wednesday.

“Collection of capitation fee and inaction of officials of the Directorate of Education, Delhi Government, has forced us to take this drastic step,” noted T.K. Muraleedharan, chairman, Save Kerala School Canning Road Action Council.

Mr. Muraleedharan said: “Though we have repeatedly appealed to the Government for help, the Education Department seems reluctant to act. Also, the Principal has threatened the students, who refused to pay illegal fees stating that their annual report card will not be issued.” Meanwhile, the school authorities refused to answer any questions.
