Parents flay move to set up mohalla clinics in government schools

August 01, 2016 12:00 am | Updated 05:53 am IST - NEW DELHI:

Objecting to the AAP government’s idea of setting up mohalla clinics in government schools, the All India Parents’ Association (AIPA) has written to Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal and Health Minister Satyendra Jain saying the move is against the law.

Mr. Kejriwal had recently announced that over 100 mohalla clinics would be set up in government schools. The clinics will provide medical facilities to students and public alike.

AIPA’s national convenor advocate Ashok Agarwal, however, has said in his letter that allowing outsiders on school campuses is “not a welcome move”.

In 2002, the Delhi High Court had directed a MCD school in Bawana to remove a dispensary from its premises for similar reasons. Subsequently, the dispensary was closed down in January 2003.

“In that case, the dispensary employees used to throw medical waste, including used syringes, in the playground, which would be picked up students,” said Mr. Agarwal.
