Panic gripped Southeast Delhi’s Millennium Bus Depot after a Delhi Transport Corporation (DTC) bus driver was found dead by his fellow employees early on Saturday morning.
There were no eyewitnesses to confirm the sequence of events leading to the man’s death.
A large crowd that gathered at the spot after his body was found gave a concocted version.
According to police, the employees who gathered around the body believed that the person died of electrocution when he stepped into a puddle , which was in contact with a naked wire. “As a result , the employees panicked and refused to walk around the depot,” said a police officer. The deceased, identified as Ashok Kumar Sharma (34), was a resident of Bulandshahr in Uttar Pradesh.
“A call was made to the Police Control Room and Ashok was taken to Safdarjung Hospital, where he was declared dead,” the police officer said . Once the body was taken to the hospital it emerged that he wasn’t electrocuted. Police then informed the employees about it.
“It seemed more like that he slipped after stepping into the puddle, fell down and injured his head, which caused an internal injury that led to his death,” the officer said .
He said there was also a possibility of Ashok suffering a cardiac arrest after the fall.
