Padma Shri for Gang Ram doctor

Chairman and head of Surgical Gastroenterology and Liver Transplant, Sir Ganga Ram Hospital, Dr. Saumitra Rawat was on Monday conferred the Padma Shri by the President for his immense contribution to the field of gastro-intestinal & liver transplant surgery.

Dr. Rawat is also Member Court of Examiner at Royal College of Surgeons of England.

After a distinguished career in the U.K., Dr. Rawat returned to his country in 2012. Besides being a pioneer in bringing up laparoscopic and robotic surgery for GI cancer in Ganga Ram Hospital, Dr. Rawat also has the distinction of performing the first robotic hepatico-jejunostomy in India. He also conducted the first low anterior resection in North India and was among the first to perform robotic and laparoscopic esophagectomy with excellent results, a hospital official said.
