Over 250 schools don’t have fire NOCs: Sisodia

A total of 267 Delhi government and government-aided schools are functioning without fire safety certification, Deputy Chief Minister and Education Minister Manish Sisodia informed the Delhi Assembly on Monday.

Speaking during Question Hour on the second day of the budget session, Mr. Sisodia said that 162 government and 105 government-aided schools did not have fire safety certificates.

On the other 565 government and 103 government-aided schools do have proper certificates.

Mr. Sisodia was replying to a question by Adarsh Nagar MLA Pawan Sharma, who asked about the number of schools that did not have clearance from the Fire department. In the written reply, the Education Department said that 88 of the government-aided schools that did not have certificates had applied for clearance.

All the government schools had applied for certificates, the department said.

“The answer includes schools that have applied for renewal of NOCs. This doesn’t mean that they are all unsafe,” said Mr. Sisodia. He added that schools in unauthorised colonies and in the Walled City face fire safety concerns as the roads near them aren’t wide enough for a fire tender to operate.
