Over 18,500 street dogs sterilised

With an aim to curb the increasing cases of rabies in Haryana’s Hisar district, as many as 18,500 street dogs have been sterilised while 75,000 others have been vaccinated to put a check on their population.

The project to sterilise street dogs to eradicate rabies was launched in March last, a year after several cases of dog bites were reported. Since the, the authorities have sterilised 18,500 dogs and vaccinated 75,000 others.

Officials said the project was being carried out under the National Rabies Control Programme (NRCP) in collaboration with the Health ministry and would be taken up in other districts in a phased manner.

“We have sterilised 18,500 dogs and vaccinated 75,000 dogs under the programme. The project will also be carried out in other districts such as Bhiwani, Jind, Fatehabad and Sirsa,” said NRCP project director Piyush Patel. - ANI
