A Delhi court on Saturday reserved order for July 25 on the bail application of Delhi government’s suspended principal secretary Rajendra Kumar in a corruption case.
Special Judge for CBI cases, Arvind Kumar, reserved the judgement on conclusion of arguments by counsel for Mr. Kumar and the probe agency.
The CBI opposed Mr. Kumar’s plea submitting that there had been continuous attempts by the accused to threaten witnesses, and his release on bail would create an intimidating atmosphere for the witnesses. The CBI counsel expressed apprehension that Mr. Kumar might tamper with evidence if released on bail.
Investigation of the case was at a crucial stage as the money trial was yet to be probed, counsel for the probe agency submitted.
Three others move court
Countering the CBI contentions, counsel for Mr. Kumar urged the court to grant him bail as he was not required for the probe.
The CBI had already made recoveries in the case, his counsel added.
Three more accused, Ashok Kumar,a private person; R.S. Kaushik, a former managing director of public sector company Intelligent Communication Systems India Limited (ICSIL); and Tarun Sharm, a deputy secretary in Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal’s office, have moved the court for bail. All the seven accused in the case are in judicial custody. The CBI alleged that Mr. Kumar had promoted Endeavour System Private Limited (ESPL) and by misusing his official position helped it in getting tenders of Rs. 9.5 crore through ICSIL. The accused persons had entered into a conspiracy to award works to ESPL by designing pre-qualification criteria or without a calling tender, the CBI alleged.
