“She was expected to come back home early from work on Monday but she never returned,” cried her 15-year-old daughter.
Sangeeta Sharma, a 37-year-old mother of two minors, left for work around 9.30 a.m. She was waiting for an autorickshaw to reach her workplace in Burari when the incident happened.
Two bullet injuries
As the accused chased the SUV being driven by their target, she was shot at during the firing. Sangeeta later succumbed to two bullet injuries.
“Around 11 a.m., a police officer came and told us that ‘she is dead’ and we should go bring her body,” said her daughter Shruti.
The family which lives in a single room house said Sangeeta was the only earning member in the family. Her husband, Surender Sharma, an asthma patient, has not been able to work since 2010.
“My father cannot even walk properly. My mother used to take him to the washroom and in her absence, I or my 13-year-old brother does the same,” Shruti said.
Mr. Sharma said that he is now worried about his children’s future.
Medical bills, school fees
“My wife used to earn ₹5,000-6,500 a month. My children’s school fees and my medical expenses were borne by her salary. How will I raise my children? More than money, I have lost my partner,” he said.
Shruti said that she had asked her mother to come home early because she wanted to buy clothes for a visit to her aunt’s house in Mathura. “My brother, Dheeraj, is already in Mathura. Mumma will never come home now,” Shruti cried.
