A 30-year-old businessman was killed while two of his associates were critically injured after an Audi car they were travelling in rammed a truck at Tolstoy Marg in the early hours of Tuesday.

The accident took place around 1-48 a.m. when the victims were headed towards Mandi House from Connaught Place after attending a wedding party. When they reached Tolstoy Marg, their car rammed a truck coming from the Jantar Mantar side.

“The collision was so bad that the car got completely crushed by the impact. It took nearly an hour to take out the victims from the car. Gas cutters had to be used to cut the body of the car. The man driving the car, later identified as Intezar, was declared dead upon arrival at the hospital. While the other two, identified as Suman (22) and Sushiv (22), are in a critical condition,” said a police officer.

“We later found out that air bags of the car had opened but that was of no use,” he added.

The truck driver is absconding. The police have contacted the truck owner to get information on the driver. A case under sections 279 and 304 (A) has been registered against the driver and a manhunt launched.

The police have so far not been able to verify who was over-speeding and who was at fault. They have, however, denied that it was a case of drunk driving. The two injured persons did not gain consciousness till late in the evening on Tuesday. The police are yet to take their statement.

The deceased, Intezar, owns a construction company by the name Zephyr Infratech and stayed in Indirapuram with his family. Suman, who worked as an assistant in his company, lives in a paying guest accommodation in Ghaziabad.
