As part of the Swachh Bharat campaign , the Delhi Government has decided to reclaim the Johad (earthen dam) at Om Vihar in West Delhi and convert it into a lake surrounded by greenery.
The Johad, located in the vicinity of a series of unauthorised colonies at Uttam Nagar , is currently in shambles with tonnes of malba and garbage being dumped into it. Chief Secretary D.M. Spolia inspected the site on Saturday and directed the department concerned to start the work .
“Under the redevelopment plan of the Johad, the malba and garbage will be removed, besides cleaning the surroundings within a stipulated time . Then the lake will be rejuvenated ,” a senior Delhi Government official said.
Officials said Mr. Spolia has directed that the necessary funds for development of the lake be released by the Delhi Government either from the Delhi Rural Development Board or from the Gaon Sabha Fund.
, Mr. Spolia also inspected the ongoing cleanliness drive in various localities of West Delhi . The CS visited the e-registrar building at the District Centre, Janak Puri, where he inspected cleanliness in the rooms of officers, corridors, toilets, and the counters meant for public dealing.
Mr. Spolia was accompanied by senior officials, including those from the Urban Development, PWD, DSIIDC, MCD, and the Irrigation and Flood Control. Later, Mr. Spolia took stock of the situation in the Chanakya Place residential and market area.
