An AGMUT-cadre Indian Police Service officer credited with launching a sustained crackdown on militant outfits in the North-East has been appointed head of the Capital’s Anti-Corruption Branch (ACB).

Surender Singh Yadav, who belongs to the 1997 batch and was till now posted as the Additional Commissioner of Police (Traffic), will now head the ACB. The notification, issued on Thursday, formally puts whistleblower bureaucrat Sanjiv Chaturvedi out of the race.

“I cannot comment much on the matter since I am yet to receive a formal notification pertaining to the decision. However, I will endeavour to serve the purpose of my posting to the best of my ability,” Mr. Yadav told The Hindu .

The ACB is not only the manifestation of the Aam Aadmi Party-led (AAP) Delhi Government’s anti-graft ambitions but has recently emerged as the topic of a tussle between the former and the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA).

The Delhi Assembly had, last month, moved a resolution in relation to a controversial notification curtailing the ambit of the ACB.
