Over 300 public toilets in the New Delhi Municipal Council (NDMC) area can now be located on Google Maps.

Launching a ‘toilet locator awareness’ campaign on Wednesday at the NDMC’s Smart Toilet facility on Rafi Marg, Swachh Bharat Mission director and Joint Secretary in the Urban Development Ministry, Praveen Prakash, said citizens would be urged to give their feedback on the condition of public toilets.

“The campaign will run from July 12 to August 11. Once the campaign ends, the cleanest toilet will be awarded,” NDMC chairman Naresh Kumar said.

Under the Urban Development Ministry’s Swachh Bharat Mission, a pilot project was launched last year to geo-tag thousands of toilets in five National Capital Region cities — Delhi, Gurugram, Faridabad, Ghaziabad and Noida — on Google Maps.

Rate the service

Now, the Ministry, via the municipal bodies of Delhi, is urging people to use Google Maps to locate public toilets and rate them in order to improve services.

“At present, 333 public toilets have been mapped on Google. While the step is aimed at reducing public urination, it is important that the toilets are in good condition and hence the feedback is being sought,” he added.

Besides the municipal toilet complexes, toilets in malls, petrol stations and other public spots will be included in the campaign.
