Now, bike sharing in Gurgaon

March 30, 2016 12:00 am | Updated September 06, 2016 04:05 pm IST - GURGAON:

The taxi-hailing app Uber on Tuesday launched a pilot bike-sharing product, uberMOTO, in Gurgaon.

“Uber today [on Tuesday] announced a pilot Uber’s bikesharing product, uberMOTO in Gurgaon… This follows our agreement with the government of Haryana to introduce technology based ride-sharing services in the State,” the company said in a statement. The company has set minimum fare at Rs.15, followed by Rs.3 per km and Rs.1 per minute of ride-time charges. Two separate two-wheeler taxi services – Baxi Taxi and M-Taxi – were launched in Gurgaon last year. Baxi was started by Ashutosh Johri and Manu Rana, who are alumni of IIT-Delhi.

Similar to cabs, users will get a driver’s name, photo and details of the motorbike, said Uber. The company’s standard safety features include Global Positioning System tracking, two-way feedback and the ability to share trip details with family and friends. “UberMOTO enables riders to push a button and share a motorbike ride within minutes,” said Gagan Bhatia, Uber Delhi General Manager. The company will not charge any service fee initially and will submit a report to the government, analysing benefits of bike-sharing.
