The Delhi High Court on Friday issued notices to the Aam Aadmi Party, its leader Alka Lamba and three other party members on a defamation suit filed against them by Laxmi Nagar MLA Vinod Kumar Binny, seeking damages of Rs.1 crore from them. Mr. Binny was expelled from AAP for his alleged anti-party activities in January this year.

Mr. Binny has stated in his civil suit that Ms. Lamba’s certain allegations, on the basis of which the Cyber Cell of the Delhi Police registered an FIR against him, had defamed him and damaged his reputation. Ms. Lamba had accused the legislator of claiming on a social networking site that she was running a sex racket at her house. The MLA said someone else had created a fake account in his name with the intention to malign him. Though he had brought it to the attention of the Cyber Cell as well as the Police Commissioner, no action has been taken so far.

Justice Manmohan Singh of the High Court issued notices to the AAP, Ms. Lamba and three other party members – Manoj Kumar, Raju Dinghan and Bandana Kumari – and posted the matter for further hearing on October 28.

Mr. Binny has sought damages of Re.1 from the AAP, to be deposited in a blind school, Rs.50 lakh from Ms. Lamba and Rs.50 lakh collectively from the three other party members.
