Northern Peripheral Expressway still a dream

April 23, 2016 12:00 am | Updated 05:41 am IST - GURGAON:

In view of the prolonged delay in construction of the Northern Peripheral Expressway which will connect National Highway-8 with Dwarka, a large number of people with projects on this stretch have decided to hold a protest at Jantar Mantar this Sunday.

The 18-km-long stretch, which has missed over half-a-dozen deadlines since 2007, has led to delay in completion of several residential and commercial projects, and caused connectivity issues for the completed projects.

In view of the same, DXP Welfare Association has planned a peaceful protest.

More than 500 flat buyers and investors across the Dwarka Expressway are expected to assemble and raise their voice against the failure of Haryana Government for early completion of the Dwarka Expressway.

The endless delay and lackadaisical attitude of authorities has not only failed to resolve the pollution and traffic woes but has also led to the harassment of buyers and investors.

The flat owners have now come together to make a registered association in Haryana called “DXP Welfare Association”.

“More than 70,000 home buyers have purchased their dream home in that area. Some of them have already got possession of their flats after the delay of two or more years and some are in process to get their dream homes in next 3-6 months.

However, lack of basic amenities and no road to commute have seen to it that they cannot live their dreams.

Most of them are eventually bearing the burden of rent as well as EMI. And this dual expense is impacting their overall spending capacity and lifestyle which is resulting in unnecessary stress and frustration in the society,” said Pradip Rahi, general-secretary, DXP Welfare Association.

Union Minister for Road Transport, Highways and Shipping Nitin Gadkari had recently accorded a National Highway status to the NPR for its fast completion.
