North safai karamcharis may gherao Kejriwal

May 18, 2015 12:00 am | Updated 05:35 am IST - New Delhi:

North Delhi Mayor Ravindra Gupta said on Sunday that safai karamcharis will gherao Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal and sit on a dharna if the Delhi government fails to release funds.

Mr. Gupta said Lieutenant Governor Najeeb Jung has already forwarded a letter demanding due funds of the North Delhi Municipal Corporation to the chief secretary for necessary action and report.

The Mayor said the Delhi government has to release funds to the North civic body to the tune of nearly Rs.2,000 crore.

Mr. Gupta added that the Kejriwal government is exploiting local bodies by withholding the funds, which hampers essential services like sanitation and health.

“The Delhi government is behaving like a money lender who earns through interest, as it converts grants into loans and that too on a heavy interest,” he said.
