The BJP-led North Delhi Municipal Corporation will be writing to the Union Urban Development Ministry and the Delhi Government to ask for power to regularise illegal colonies.
Resolution passedIn a resolution passed on Wednesday, the Standing Committee demanded that the civic body be “empowered to regularise the unauthorised colonies and to decide the development charges and change of land use”.
Over 700 coloniesStanding Committee chairperson Mohan Bhardwaj said there were over 700 unauthorised colonies in North Delhi, which had already applied for regularisation.
“People are tired of waiting. The government has done surveys, asked for applications and affidavits. The procedure is complete but the colonies have not been regularised,” said Mr. Bhardwaj.
The corporation’s resolution also urged the Centre to regularise the colonies with their existing boundaries and conditions imposed by the master plan.
Mr. Bhardwaj said since the colonies had already been built, it would be impossible to increase the width of roads. “We will ask the government to legalise the colonies as they stand today,” said the BJP leader.
The committee said pre-regularisation development charges should be waived off and the same could be charged after the colonies were developed.
However, a senior official of the corporation said the resolution was a political move by the BJP and such power could not be given to the civic body.
