There is no immediate respite in sight from power cuts in Delhi, if sources in the Power Department are to be believed. As per them, the power cuts of two to three hours a day are here to stay for another two to three weeks especially if the temperature does not come down.
The power crisis is mainly precipitated by the damage done to the Capital’s ‘power lifeline’ — the DTL’s 400/220 KV network connecting grid stations of Dadri, Mandola, Bawana, Bamnauli and Narela — during the thunder storm of May 30. Besides, over 1,000 trees fell on the power network damaging several hundreds of electricity poles.
The repairs of the transmission lines is currently being done by putting the power transmission of the affected lines on the emergency response system, but the temporary arrangement cannot be overloaded. Once the demand goes extremely high, the lines trip resulting in load shedding.
Power cut is also happening because there is no cooling period for the electric instruments, which get heated up due to continuous overloading when temperatures do not come down even during morning or night.
