The Special Investigation Team (SIT) has decided to close the 1984 anti-Sikh riots case in which two persons were killed by a mob in central Delhi.
Informing Metropolitan Magistrate Abhilash Malhotra, the SIT submitted that it had decided to close the case as no evidence could be collected during re-investigation of the incident.
Meanwhile, the court issued notices to the family members of the two Sikh men who were killed near the Kashmere Gate ISBT during the riots following the assassination of former Prime Minister Indira Gandhi.
“No incriminating direct or circumstantial evidence is available against any person. Hence, further investigation in the case has been closed. Accordingly, final report under section 173(8) Code of Criminal Procedure regarding closure of further investigation is being submitted to the court. An intimation with regard to closure of further investigation has also been given to the complainant,” the SIT said in its report.
Public notice
It added that despite a public notice in several newspapers requesting people acquainted with facts to give evidence or depose no one came forward.
“None of the witnesses have named anyone as suspect from the mob and they could not provide any clue/ evidence about any suspect from the mob. No evidence/ clue regarding any accused person could come on record during further investigation. Despite all possible efforts, no evidence could be collected to establish involvement of any person in this crime,’’ the report said.
