The Aam Aadmi Party on Sunday launched an attack on the BJP-led National Democratic Alliance Government at the Centre over power cuts in large parts of the city. It also called upon the BJP to refer to its 49-day rule in Delhi to fix the power and water crisis in the city.
Addressing mediapersons on Sunday, former Chief Minister of Delhi Arvind Kejriwal claimed there was no power or water crisis in Delhi during its government and that the citizens were being treated “unfairly” by the Central Government.
“When there was the AAP Government, we not only ensured that that the common man of Delhi gets access to water and power at reasonable rates but we also ensured there was no crisis in these two very important areas of public life,” said Mr. Kejriwal.
“The onus of ending the harassment of people of Delhi, who are suffering due to unending and unjustified power cuts across the Capital, lies squarely with the BJP-led NDA’s Central Government, particularly the Union Power Ministry,” he added.
While criticising the role played by the Centre and the Delhi Lieutenant-Governor in what it termed as “emergency”, Mr. Kejriwal argued their response “has been hugely disappointing, and has left a lot to be desired”.
“It is sad and shocking that the VIP areas of Delhi continue to get uninterrupted supply of electricity and the common man is being made to suffer citing a lame excuse of the shortage due to increase in the electricity demand. The AAP is of the clear view that the VIP culture is also mainly responsible for the electricity woes of the common man,” said Mr. Kejriwal.
“Not only has any attempt been made to make emergency arrangements to make electricity available from either the central grid or States with surplus electricity, there seems to be no sense of urgency ensuring equitable distribution to all parts of the city,” the party said in its statement released on Sunday.
The party also appealed to the Central Government and the Lieutenant-Governor that the people of Delhi should be given a “fair treatment” and should not be subjected to any injustice.
