Various organisations in the city are gearing up to organise events at seven locations across the Capital to celebrate the 2nd International Yoga Day on June 21.

Joint Secretary of Ministry of AYUSH, A.K. Generiwala said, “Yoga is a mass movement, it is for all. The programmes will involve each and every section of the society. No one should feel left out. We have requested every Ministry to include special and differently-abled people in the yoga performances.”

Event in CP

The event in Connaught Place organised by NDMC, which is expected to see 10,000 participants will have special yoga performances by visually challenged and differently-abled people.

Two groups of 10-12 visually challenged children and six to seven persons on wheelchair will demonstrate their performances on the day.

Manoj Nesari from the Ministry of AYUSH, the Nodal officer in charge for the Nehru Park yoga arrangement said, “We are expecting about 2,000 participants in Nehru Park for the day.

Though the public will be there, it shall be the main place for government officials and diplomats of the Embassies.” The event will include a programme of classical music conducted by Doordarshan, followed by messages from various yoga experts. The yoga performance will follow the 45-minute common protocol developed by AYUSH Ministry.

Classical music

At Lodhi Garden, the event will include around 350 participants from Patanjali Yoga Samiti.

“From 6 to 6.45, there will be an Indian classical-music concert by Doordarshan, thereafter a CD will be played to the audience, which will include the Prime Minister’s speech followed by speech of External Affairs Minister”, informed Mr. Nesari.

AYUSH will further carry on with the celebration with a two-day international conference on ‘Yoga for Body and Beyond’ at Vigyan Bhawan from June 22-23 where eminent experts from across the globe will participate.

The other venues include Swarn Jayanti Park in Rohini, District Park in Dwarka and Yamuna Sports Complex in Surajmal Vihar which will be managed by DDA.
