ehicles running on CNG will continue to remain out of the ambit of the odd-even vehicle rationing scheme, Transport Minister Gopal Rai announced here on Tuesday.
A decision over the exemption granted to women drivers is yet to be taken.
The Minister said CNG stickers will be available from April 1 at an IGL pump near the CGO Complex on Lodhi Road between 8 a.m. and 8 p.m. everyday. The decision was one of the many taken at a meeting of the coordination committee, which includes members from several departments of the government.
“Personally, I am in favour of exempting women. But, the opinion is divided according to the survey we undertook. We will put out the final notification on April 8,” Mr. Rai said while adding that he would write to the governments of Haryana, Uttar Pradesh, Punjab, Rajasthan, and Himachal Pradesh, urging them to create awareness about the vehicle rationing measure under which cars with odd and even registration numbers ply on alternate days.
The Minister added that a trial of the air quality monitoring system, which will be put in place between April 15 and 30, will begin on April 6.
The Delhi government, meanwhile, will launch a publicity campaign titled ‘Dilli bole dil se, odd even phir se’ on April 1 across multiple media including television and radio, buses and the Delhi Metro.
Mr. Rai also said that the registration of additional buses, which will be pressed into service during this period, has already started while the process to involve ex-servicemen, who are to be deployed along with the civil defence volunteers, will begin soon.
“On April 13, volunteers, DTC drivers, and Delhi Metro officials will assemble at the Chhatrasal stadium and take an oath to make the drive successful,” said the Minister while adding that a committee headed by the Transport Commissioner has been appointed to find ways to improve the ‘Poochh—O’ app and help commuters when the scheme is in place.
