: Passengers at the Indira Gandhi International Airport (IGIA) here will no longer have to queue up at airline counters to check in.
On Saturday, the Delhi International Airport Ltd. (DIAL) introduced a system where portable hand-held gadgets will facilitate the process.
They will be WiFi-enabled, and attached to Bluetooth-based printers for printing boarding passes.
“We are happy to introduce this commuter-friendly technology.
This would make checking in a smooth affair at the country’s busiest airport,” said I. Prabhakara Rao, CEO, DIAL.
Mr. Rao said the initiative would ensure better queue management, especially during peak hours and when the weather disrupts flight operations.
DIAL said that it had successfully conducted extended the trial period of the service at Terminal 3.
“During the trial period, an average of 8 per cent to 10 per cent of commuters experienced no difficulties while using the gadget.
Trial period
Jet Airways and Vistara have been using this portable device since the beginning of the trial period,” said Mr. Rao.
Of late, DIAL has been promoting technology-based initiatives at the airport for efficiency.
Some of these include self-check-in kiosks, mobile app ‘flyDEL’, and flap gates near the boarding area.
