Protesters gathered in various parts of the city on Wednesday to form human chains and perform street plays to remember those who died 25 years ago in the aftermath of the demolition of the Babri Masjid.

The protesters gathered in Delhi University and the by-lanes, Chandni Chowk, Kabootar Market and Central Park at Connaught Place.

The citizen-initiated protest under the #NotInMyName campaign intended to spread the message that there will be no more hatred and violence like on December 6, 1992 when “thousands of Indians who lost their lives because some in this country launched a violent and hate-filled campaign to divide citizens and gain political power”.

The organisers said “the demolition of Babri Mosque was an attack on the secular polity of our country and the rule of law. It was an attack upon India's history of diversity and co-existence, its celebration of difference and its recognition that religious minorities have an equal stake in their homeland as their Hindu brothers and sisters.”
