Demolition and sealing actions will be put on hold till the Delhi Assembly elections are over, the North Delhi Municipal Corporation decided on Tuesday.
At a meeting of the Standing Committee, chairperson Mohan Bhardwaj ordered officials to stop all demolition and sealing work as the model code of conduct had come into effect on Monday, when the election date was announced.
However, the civic body will carry on the crack down of ongoing illegal construction within its jurisdiction.
In South Delhi, too, action against ongoing illegal construction will continue. SDMC’s Standing Committee chairperson Subhash Arya said no orders had been issued, but the civic body will adhere to the poll code.
The East Delhi Municipal Corporation is yet to order a halt to demolitions, but a decision will be taken in the next meeting of the Standing Committee, a senior official said.
