A court here on Tuesday dismissed former Commonwealth Games Organising Committee joint director-general T.S. Darbari’s anticipatory bail application in a case filed by the CBI relating to the hiring of video screens from AM Films UK Ltd for the launch of the Queen’s Baton Relay (QBR).
Mr. Darbari along with former OC deputy director-general Sanjay Mahendroo are currently in judicial custody after being arrested in another case for alleged irregularities in payments made to another firm AM Car and Van Hire Ltd for transportation services during the launch of the QBR.
CBI Special Judge (CBI) A. S. Yadav in his order said that “if the accused is arrested in one case, it is no ground to grant him anticipatory bail in another case simply on the apprehension that he may be arrested again after the grant of bail in another case”.
Mr. Darbari’s counsel furnished before the court documents that indicated that the AM Films UK contract was cleared by a three-member committee in which Mr. Darbari was not a member.
However, the court took a serious note of the CBI’s findings that the award of the video screen contract to AM Films UK was done on the “basis of false quotations which were not signed by the persons who sent them”. The court also noted that the deal which involved “crores of rupees” was not sent to the OC Finance Committee for approval.
The regular bail applications for Mr. Darbari and Mr. Mahendroo will now come up for hearing on December 8.
