Nikhil Nanda’s accounts hacked

August 03, 2013 11:20 am | Updated 11:20 am IST - NEW DELHI:

The e-mail and Facebook accounts of Amitabh Bachchan’s son-in-law and the Joint Managing Director of Escorts Group Nikhil Nanda were hacked by unidentified person this past month and fake messages were sent to his contacts to cheat and extract money from them.

A case has been registered by the Economic Offences Wing of the Delhi Police Crime Branch in this connection under the Information Technology Act.

Making a complaint on behalf of Mr. Nanda, the IT Department Head of Escorts Limited, Vipin Kumar, said that a fake e-mail was sent to Mr. Nanda’s e-mail-id by the culprit posing as if the mail was sent from a Microsoft account for verification purpose and requesting him to click on a link.

When Mr. Nanda clicked on the link, it opened to a fake sign-in page where Mr. Nanda typed his password and other details without realising that the message and the sign-in pages were fake. Soon after the account was hacked, the culprit sent phishing e-mails to Mr. Nanda’s contacts saying that he was in Manchester and was in need of money for the treatment of his ailing cousin. Mr. Nanda got to know about it when he started getting calls from his friends and acquaintances to know whether he had sent the message.

Subsequently, Mr. Nanda made several attempts to recover the hacked account and wrote to Microsoft about it, but it was hacked again. On July 24, Mr. Nanda was shocked to find that his Facebook account was also hacked as he used the hacked e-mail account and its password to access it. The FIR said the culprit altered and damaged the contents of Mr. Nanda’s e-mail account which now appear in a different language and diminished the value and the utility of his account.
