A 35-year-old Nigerian national was found dead inside his rented accommodation in Delhi’s Uttam Nagar on Friday morning, the police said, adding the reason will only be ascertained after the post-mortem report.
The deceased, Neely Emeko, had been staying in the country for the past one year, the police said. Mr. Emeko had come to the city last year on a business visa and was employed in a company here.
The deceased’s boss had been trying to reach him for the past few days but Mr. Emeko was not answering the calls. Following this, his boss came to meet Mr. Emeko at his residence and found the room to be locked from inside.
“Mr. Emeko’s boss knocked the door several times but did not get any response. After this, he peeped through a window and saw Mr. Emeko lying unconscious on the floor,” a police officer said.
A PCR call was received around 10 a.m. stating a man has been found dead in the Uttam Nagar area, the officer said adding, “A police team reached the spot and found a Nigerian national lying dead inside his flat.”
His boss also informed the police that Mr. Emeko had been ill for the past few days.
It is suspected that he might have died due to illness, a police officer said.
Family informed
Mr. Emeko’s family members and the Nigerian High Commission have been informed about the incident, the police said adding the autopsy is awaited, the police added.
