NHRC notice to police for rape, murder of minor in Delhi

August 22, 2014 09:26 am | Updated 09:26 am IST - GURGAON:

The National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) has issued notice to the Gurgaon Police in connection with the rape and murder of a minor girl earlier this month.

Taking suo motu cognisance of a media report that an 11-year-old girl was raped and murdered merely four days after a two-year-old girl was kidnapped and raped, the NHRC, in a notice to the Police Commissioner, has called for a report within four weeks.

The Commission has observed that the contents of the newspaper report, if true, raise an issue of the State’s failure to protect its subjects, particularly the children who were being kidnapped, raped and murdered. He has also been asked to submit an action plan for protection of such vulnerable group of society.

According to reports, the 11-year-old girl, daughter of a washer man, had gone to deliver the last set of ironed clothes at 8:30 p.m. in Sector 27, but did not return home.
