The National Green Tribunal (NGT) has questioned the Indian arm of German carmaker Volkswagen about the “road map in relation to the vehicle recall” announced last year. Expressing disappointment over the slow pace, the NGT also asked Volkswagen about the number of vehicles recalled. The tribunal has now called upon the auto major to speed up the process or be ready to pay environmental compensation.
Earlier, Volkswagen was asked to file an affidavit stating the action it planned to take. The counsel for Volkswagen had then said that the recall would take time.
Advocate Sanjeev Ailawadi, appearing for one of the petitioners, said Volkswagen had been selling faulty cars since 2010 and, till date, had done little to rectify the problem.
