Dr. Khurshid Anwar, executive director of an NGO who committed suicide on Wednesday hours after the police registered a rape case against him, had “unsuccessfully tried to contact the girl a few times before his death”.
According to sources, this was revealed by four documents purportedly recovered from the deceased’s house. The contents of the document -- three of which were in English and hand-written while the fourth, a print out in Hindi -- also disclosed that Dr. Anwar wanted to know from the victim whether she would stand by the allegations she levelled against him or was she doing it under someone’s influence.
The documents also questioned why the purported victim did not go for a medical examination and have a mention of the defamation case that Dr. Anwar had filed against the girl and her co-volunteers, said sources.
Meanwhile, the police said the night before jumping off the terrace of his house, Dr. Anwar went to his friend’s house in Dwarka and decided to stay back. “Next morning when he returned home, he realised that he had left the house key at his friend’s house. After calling his friend and asking him to send the keys, he went to the terrace and jumped down before someone could arrive with the keys,” said a police officer.
Dr. Anwar’s was buried here on Thursday after the post-mortem.
