As many as 10 ‘Parakram’ vans, designed to respond to terror incidents, were flagged off by Delhi Police chief Amulya Patnaik on Friday.
The vehicles, which resemble PCR vans, have been stationed at “vulnerable” places such as Vijay Chowk, Palika Bazar, IP Marg, Saket Select City Walk, Vasant Kunj mall, Pacific Mall, Netaji Subhash Place complex, Akshardham Temple, Lotus Temple and Jhandewalan.
Commandos on vigil
Each van has an NSG-trained driver armed with a small weapon, an in-charge and three commandos carrying AK-47 rifles. The vehicles are also GPRS-enabled and fitted with pan-Delhi wireless communication.
Sense of security
According to the Delhi Police, the vans will not only to respond to terror situations, but also instil a sense of security among the public when they see them on the roads.
“The vehicles were introduced in the wake of the recent terror incidents across the globe,” said a senior police officer.
He added that more such vans would be introduced in the future.
