Breaking his silence on the death of Paras Bhasin whose body was found along the railway tracks in East Delhi, Shaily Mittal’s father Satish Mittal on Thursday alleged that the young man had suicidal tendencies.
Refuting all allegations levelled against him by Paras’ family, Mr. Mittal said Paras had attempted suicide several times in the past. He also said that Paras used to threaten his daughter that he would commit suicide if she did not accept his marriage proposal, forcing her to give in to his demands.
Mr. Mittal said Shaily had called him once saying that she was on a railway track and would commit suicide and returned home only after he (Mr. Mittal) assured her that the family would agree to her demands.
He said that he was not against the marriage but wanted to discuss the issue in detail before taking a decision.
Shaily had, on Tuesday, given a two-page suicide note allegedly written by Paras and her to the police in which the couple had purportedly blamed their respective families for the differences. The note is being examined by hand writing experts, said the police.
The police described Mr. Mittal’s comments as his version of the story.
Meanwhile, the police have received Paras’ post-mortem report and are examining it.
A senior police officer, who refused to share details of the report, said that doing so would be premature and could affect the investigation of the case, registered as a murder.
A forensic team is examining the site in East Delhi where the body was found to ascertain how the incident occurred.
The police are still looking for any eyewitness to the incident to get some clues.
According to Mr. Mittal, Shaily had lodged a complaint at the Lodhi Colony police station on Saturday after she received some calls and texts which were threatening in nature.
