With discoms seeking a tariff hike of 40 per cent, Delhi’s power regulator DERC on Tuesday briefed Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit on the new tariff order it has prepared for the year 2010—11 which is likely to be announced within next few days.

In the meeting, the DERC (Delhi Electricity Regulatory Council) delegation led by its chairman Berjinder Singh apprised Ms. Dikshit about the findings of the regulator after examining the balance sheets and tariff petition of the discoms, sources said.

The discoms have strongly been pitching for a hike in power tariff, arguing that cost of power in the open market as well as cost of distribution has increased significantly in the last one year.

The discoms had filed tariff petitions to DERC two months back seeking over 40 per cent hike in tariff.

Despite the demand by the discoms, the DERC last year had not increased power tariff in the city.

But tariff had gone up after Delhi Government had withdrawn subsidy to certain categories of customers citing financial difficulties.
