‘New posts used as lollipop’

March 15, 2015 12:00 am | Updated 07:26 am IST - NEW DELHI:

The Delhi BJP on Saturday hit out against the Aam Aadmi Party Government’s move to appoint Parliamentary Secretaries to Ministers, calling it a “lollipop” being used to quell infighting within the AAP.

Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal’s Government has appointed 21 MLAs as Parliamentary Secretaries to Ministers, which Delhi BJP president Satish Upadhyay said was only done to provide them with government facilities.

“The Delhi Administration Act has no provision to appoint private secretaries in such a way and no government in Delhi has ever appointed Parliamentary Secretaries in such large numbers,” said Mr. Upadhyay.

He went on to add that this move was proof of double standards of the AAP as the party had claimed it would minimise the burden on the exchequer and appoint experts instead of political workers. Mr. Upadhyay said the State exchequer would have to bear a cost of Rs.5 lakh per secretary every month.
