Leader of Opposition in Delhi Assembly Vijay Kumar Malhotra inaugurated a foot over bridge at Bhisma Pitamaha Marg near the Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium here on Saturday.

Made of steel, the bridge has also been fitted with lifts on either side for the convenience of the elderly and the disabled.

Speaking at the function to mark the inauguration of the FOB, Delhi Mayor Prithvi Raj Sawhney said since the opening of the bridge coincides with the birth anniversary of Pandit Deen Dayal Upadhaya, it will be named after him.

The FOB has been constructed in six months and will cater to pedestrians wishing to travel between Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium and Sai Baba Temple.

Speaking on the occasion Mr. Malhotra said the lifts, that have a carrying capacity of 15 people, have been put on either side of the road. They will make it convenient for the physically challenged and senior citizens to cross over.

The bridge will offer easy access to sports lovers visiting the JLN Stadium during the Games and will be a boon to the devotees visiting the temples in the area, he went on to add.

MCD’s Standing Committee Chairman Yogender Chandolia said that the over bridge has been constructed at a cost of Rs. 2.6 crore.
