Surfing the Internet is set to become easier at the New Delhi railway station soon. Northern Railway has started a pilot project to provide Wi-Fi services to passengers at the busiest station in the city.

Officials said the trial started over a week ago and it will continue for a few more days. The initiative is being implemented by Rail Tel – a public sector undertaking providing telecom infrastructure.

“The trial has begun at all the platforms of the station. It will continue for a few more days. We are hopeful of launching the facility in a fortnight,” a senior Northern Railway official said.

Officials said the service provider is still working on the nitty-gritty like free time limit and the charges for using the facility. Depending on the response at the New Delhi station, officials said the facility will also be provided at other major stations in the city.

“We chose New Delhi for launching the facility as it is the busiest station. Moreover, several premium trains operate from the station. Most of the passengers in these trains are Internet users. Also several tourists take trains from here, especially foreigners,” an official said.
