The young Nepalese domestic help of a 72-year-old man who was found murdered and his house ransacked at Lajpat Nagar here on Saturday has been arrested along with his brother-in-law and three other accomplices for alleged involvement. The accused persons killed the senior citizen to commit dacoity.

Vijay Sarin, a property consultant, had been living alone in the ground-floor rented accommodation after the death of his wife about six years ago. His daughter lives with her husband in Dwarka. The incident came to light around 11 a.m. on Saturday when, on not getting any response from inside despite several knocks at the front door, his cook entered the house through the rear door along with another domestic help and found his body lying on the floor. The house had been ransacked.

Mr. Sarin’s hands and legs were tied and his mouth taped. Since his domestic help Harish Bahadur (19) was missing, the police launched a hunt for him suspecting his role. They learnt that Mr. Sarin had not got his antecedents verified.

“We carried out searches during which we examined over 60 Nepalese nationals. Some of his relatives were tracked down to Sector 7 of Rohini where Harish was arrested on Sunday afternoon along with his brother-in-law Ranga Khadka (22) after they confessed to their involvement. At their instance, we arrested three other Nepalese nationals Navraj (19), Kamal Bahadur Budha (23) and Padam Bhadur Khadka (28) at the Anand Vihar bus terminus. They were planning to escape to Nepal. All the stolen articles, including jewellery and a mobile phone, have been recovered from the five accused,” said a police officer.

The accused disclosed that in the early hours of Saturday, Harish opened the door to Mr. Sarin’s house for the other accomplices. They allegedly assaulted the victim before tying up his limbs and gagging him with a tape, following which they decamped with the valuables.
